Alison

Alison Rhodes Tamminga, Director of Children's Ministry. Formerly, Alison was a teacher with the Santa Barbara School District. She sings with the Santa Barbara Master Chorale, and is also a key part of the video team for the event-videography business "Performance Memories." Children’s Ministry at GPC offers child-care, Sunday School classes, and special programs, including the annual summertime Villa Music and Arts Program. SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS for the 2014-2015 Season are: Chuck Roth, Sandie Adams, LuAnn Miller, Marilyn Gross, Sue Kremser, and Peggy Ciolino - and most are signing up for the 2015-2016 year as well. Thanks to these dedicated GPC members who share their time and talents to nurture our children!

Children’s Ministry News for April, 2017

The Sunday school lessons for April begin with an overview of the whole Passion story, then give details. First jubilant crowds welcome Jesus to Jerusalem without understanding who he is.
Next he rises from the dead and commissions his disciples to be his messengers. Two old testament stories follow. The first tells of Ruth and Naomi helping each other through hard times, and then young Samuel hears a voice Eli recognizes is from God.read more

Villa Summer Music and Arts Week is Coming!

The annual Eduardo Villa Music and Arts Program is July 17 through July 21, 2017!

This year’s theme: “It’s Good to be Queen – The Story of Esther: A Purim Tale.

Kids in the program get a fabulous opportunity to learn and experience the arts of music and performance, as well as stagecraft.

Children’s Ministry News for March, 2017

The Sunday school lessons in March concern certain events of Holy Week and begin with Jesus issuing the Great commandment, loving God and neighbor. A woman cares for Jesus by anointing his head with ointment, then he celebrates the Passover meal with his disciples and gives new meaning to the bread and the cup. Sunday School Scoop

Lessons in the 2017 New Year begin with the story of the wise men who see a bright star and decide to follow it and worship the child born King of the Jews. Next is the recounting of 12-year-old Jesus staying behind in Jerusalem and proclaiming his faith to the teachers in the temple. Jesus continues to amaze and upset with his message of a new kingdom where the poor, meek, merciful, and the peacemakers are blessed.read more

Children’s Ministry News for September, 2016

The last Sunday school lesson for the summer tells of the post-resurrection appearance of Jesus to his disciples who were fishing without much luck until Jesus gives them instructions about casting their nets wider. They finally understand this is their commission.
We will continue using the We Believe curriculum for the upcoming Sunday school year. It starts with some of Paul’s letters, the first a letter of faith reminding us that nothing can separate us from God’s love, then learning that Christians are called to live a life of Love and finally, that joy comes from living in the awareness of God’s presence.read more

Children’s Ministry News for April, 2016

The first three Sunday School lessons in April describe times of sharing bread, first with the post-resurrection travelers on the road to Emmaus who did not recognize Jesus until he broke bread with them, then a retelling of the last supper and, finally, the power of this communion tradition which has lasted over 2000 years. The last April lesson concerns the church as a body with members (including children) as valuable parts of that body, all contributing to the whole.read more

Children’s Ministry News for March, 2016

The Sunday School Spring curriculum began in the last week of February this year. Jesus reads scripture from Isaiah in the synagogue and proclaims his ministry as a year of jubilee. He celebrates generous giving, teaches his disciples to help others and rides triumphantly into Jerusalem. The final lesson describes the amazement of several women and Peter when they see that Jesus has risen from his tomb.read more

August lessons from Awesome Adventures, God’s people on Mountain and Seas, begin with Jesus calling his disciples, fishermen, to follow him and use their skills for the kingdom of God. Next Jesus teaches his

Children’s Ministry News for November 2015

November’s Sunday School lessons begin with King Solomon assembling the Israelites at the new temple for a great festival of worship and praise. The next lessons focus on Psalms, the first saying the Lord is my rock, the others praising God with exuberance, music and joyful noise! Attendance has been wonderful lately.
